If the San Diego auditions were unmemorable, then this episode was even more unsatisfying. At this time, no one that was really very good sticks to my mind. It is nor a good show when the two auditions I remember are both incredibly annoying.
There was this big brother-sister team
Jeffrey and Michelle Lampkin took on "I'm Your Angel" by R. Kelly and Celine Dion. They actually sang well, especially the brother. But the off-audition behavior of Jeffrey really did not sit well with me. His voice and demeanor were as loud as his fashion sense.
There was this girl
Amy Flynn who was the captain of her dance team and an abstinence advocate. I did not really get what Paula found adorable with her. I did not like her over-confidence and pageanty behavior, almost bitchy. Simon, though, hit it right on the head with his comments that people will find her annoying.
These three all made it. There were a couple of pleasant people who were good enough in my opinion, but did not make it through to Hollywood. One was the pretty Air Force pilot
Lindsey, whose "Black Velvet" was actually more decent than some other passers I have heard. The other was
Oliver, whose wife gave birth right on the day of the audition (ala Phil Stacy last season). His "Get Here" started well but he unfortunately went into over-the-top runs and falsettos.
Well, let's hope the Omaha, Nebraska auditions next week will be better than the two dull episodes we had this week. Or am I just getting a bit jaded about these audition episodes already?
