This particular yearend chart is one of those that does not really reflect what had actually been the best-selling album of 2007.
Because of the way the information had been compiled and time frame involved (only Dec 06 to Nov 07),
Daughtry's debut album (
review) had earned the coveted Number 1 slot of this yearend list. I am not complaining because I thought it was really an awesome debut album.
However, if the actual Soundscan figures were to be followed, at the time this list was published last weekend, the soundtrack to
"High School Musical 2" had already overtaken Daughtry to be the best-selling album of the year.
Just today though,
Josh Groban's Christmas album
"Noel" sold an additional 669,000 copies this week, maintaining the Number 1 slot of the Billboard 200 for a record 4 consecutive weeks at top. These phenomenal sales figures, now totalling
2.77 million copies sold, have pushed "Noel" to be this year's top selling album!
