Blog EntryAmerican Idol Top 24 AnnouncedFeb 17, '07 9:52 AM
for everyone
Well, the Top 12 boys and Top 12 Girls have been announced in this season's American Idol. A lot of new faces in this Top 24, those who were never shown in the auditions episodes.  It seems the producers really wasted our time getting to know people who would eventually never last long on the show!  I guess they did not want to waste their footage on the backstories of Porcelana, Jenry, Ebony, Rachel Zevita, Sean Michel, among others... But it sure wastes our time in watching, and wastes opportunities for these more obscure qualifiers to get their supporters.

But among the familiar names, the ones who catch my attention are Chris Sligh and Melinda Doolittle. I have read good things about Phil Stacey and Leslie Hunt on the net.  But we really need to hear the others more. Lakisha Jones channels Mandisa.  There seems to be no Katharine McPhee-type beauty in this batch, though.

I felt that Sundance Head did not really deserve to be there because of his poor performances in the last rounds, but let us just see about that.  That awful groups performance of Mr. Head (incidentally with Robyn Troup, who actually went on to win a competition earning her the right to sing with Justin Timberlake on the Grammys!)  might just his only bad performance, and the producers like to cook up controversy.

One of the contestants is named AJ TABALDO, who says he is "an ethnic mutt! I’m part Filipino and Portuguese with Spanish, French, Italian and Chinese." So Fil-Am voters have someone to go for again this year. Let us see how far he goes.

it made me re-think the whole american idol thing.
the audition process could all be a complete hoax.

Very interesting article, although we know that VFTW is a decidedly anti American Idol website. I read that website also because of its very funny reviews and message boards.

The article seems to suggest that the Top 24 are predetermined way before the auditions are ever conducted. But how does that explain comebacking auditioners who finally made it through, like much pimped Gina Glocksen, or Paula fave Nicholas Pedro, and Fil-Am AJ Tabaldo (this is already his 5th try!).

I guess we will never really know the truth unless someone writes a tell-all book or it gets featured on VH1 Behind the Music sometime in the future. In the meantime, we will continue to enjoy this show while it lasts. hehehe
