Blog EntryAmerican Idol 7: Top 9 Sing Dolly PartonApr 3, '08 9:43 AM
for everyone
I am late with this summary, since I watched this during my Legazpi City vacation this week.  I must confess I am not at all familiar with Dolly Parton music.  I was only familiar with her ubiquitous pop stuff ("9 to 5", "Islands in the Stream", and yes, "I Will Always Love You".)  But you know that the songwriter is good when even his unfamiliar songs can actually sound good on the first hearing.

Syesha Mercado sang "I Will Always Love You," mixing the Dolly and the Whitney versions.  With her hairstyle this week, she actually looks like a young Condeleeza Rice!  Hahaha!  The familiarity of her song and her solid performance automatically places her as safe.

The rest sang unfamiliar, yet pleasing songs.  Best for me was David Archuleta with "Smokey Mountain Memories" and Michael Johns with "It's All Wrong But It's All Right".

The rest were again a homogenous blur.  However the clear laggers were Ramiele Malubay with "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" and Kristy Lee Cook with "Coat fo Many Colors".  Both were not really that bad, but in the face of the competition left, these two are really outclassed.  The third member of the Bottom 3 is very difficult to call.  I may have to go with Jason Castro and his "Travellin' Thru".

I think that this is really Ramiele's time to go.

Results show that finally the Pinoy texting machinery in the States have failed to save Ramiele Malubay from elimination. She is really lucky to survive through the Top 10. Her exit performance was very good and gutsy, despite her depression.

While I got Kristy Lee correct, I did not guess the third Bottom 3 member correctly, turned out to be Brooke White.

You've been doing great picking who's leaving the last two weeks! I haven't even been close! I thought Ramiele gave her strongest performance this week out of the four songs she's done since the final 12 started, and since she hadn't even been in the bottom three before, I thought she'd be safe this week. (Loud buzzer goes off indicating a WRONG answer). During the three weeks they were whittling down 12 girls & 12 guys to the final 12, Ramiele was my favorite, but she wasn't close to that once the final 12 started. Leaves me scratching my head as to what happened to her song selection. Still, I'd have her and Chikezie alive. I agree with what you said about her exit performance - I didn't even think she'd be able to talk through her tears let alone sing!
